About "Seven Steps to Becoming Financially Free"
Since I became pastor of this wonderful parish thirteen years ago, I have had the great pleasure of starting some exciting new programs. Many of you have attended and benefitted from "Catholic Parish Renewal" Retreats, the “Fully Human - Fully Alive” Sessions, our “Why Catholic?” program, the “Life in the Spirit” Seminars, the “Purpose Driven Life” Meetings, and “That Man Is You” Gatherings. I’m convinced that individuals, couples, families and the parish have been blessed by these programs and I’m often told by those who participated, that one or other of them, changed their lives forever. This of course, makes it all worthwhile, but it also challenges me to look for and implement new and beneficial programs to help our children, youth and adults.
For some time, I have looked for a program that would help make the people of the parish richer in every sense of that word, but up until last year, I came up empty. Since then, I have read and heard about a new program for Catholics by Catholics, which will help them save more money, get out of debt and start to plan for retirement, for their children’s college education and for the rainy-day. After reading fliers, seeing advertisements and hearing a great discussion on EWTN with the author and people like Dr. Scott Hahn, I felt God was calling me to bring it to our people and our parish.
The name of the program is “Seven Steps to Becoming Financially Free” and it was ‘invented’ by Dr. Phil Lanahan and sponsored by Our Sunday Visitor Catholic newspaper. Basically it’s a six session, plus Orientation and Graduation Sessions, where participants come together to see videos by the author, discuss the teachings of the Bible and the Catechism of the Catholic Church and learn what it takes to become Financially Free. Each person will have a book to read and a workbook to make decisions and we will have trained leaders in each group to see that we get the best out of every session. No one will be asked to disclose their own financial situations or any other personal or private matters. The main emphases is to help each and every one of us to become better stewards of everything that God has given us and to manage our money effectively. For more information and to watch a video on the Seven Steps....go to www.veritasfinancialministires.com and I know you will be convinced that it can be a great blessing for every couple and every single person in this parish. Best results happen when couples attend together. We will provide child-care!
“Seven Steps to Becoming Financially Free” will start in our St. Matthew Hall on Tuesday, October 2, 2007 from 7 to 9 p.m. We do need to order books now and train group leaders and so we urge everyone, who wants to benefit from this timely and valuable program, to sign up today. You may do so by calling the office at 241-3249, by filling out a form from the bulletin racks, or by e-mailing me at camolin@swbell.net. To get the information contained in the Seven Steps..from a Financial Counselor other sources would cost you hundreds of dollars, but our program only costs a total of $40 or $5 a week, to cover the cost of your books, handouts and child care. Couples can use one book and two workbooks to save money. Space is limited and other Catholics and non-Catholics plan to join us, so reserve your place now, by responding early this coming week. The program will show you how to take the gifts God has given you - your skills, your education, your training, and your income - and use them as He intended. This is going to be a wonderful journey - please join us.

Msgr. Morgan

About Small Christian Communities
Today while many churches are intentionally creating larger congregations or mega-churches, St. Peter, Prince of the Apostles Parish has chosen to foster the involvement of its members in Small Christian Communities, reminiscent of the early Church. A Small Christian Community is a group of people who come together in the most basic and personal unit of the parish. The Community gathers in the available homes of its members, who discuss their lives in the light of the gospel and share their Christian faith through prayer and conversation. Within such gatherings there naturally arises a connection of acceptance and support through which the members learn, in a personal manner, the meaning of being a Church. A Small Christian Community can encourage and enable you to ground your life in the Christian story and express faith in your everyday life.
